Healthier Ratatouille Turkey burger: zucchini in the turkey patty, caramelized onions, garlic butter, roasted peppers and tomato, a French & Healthy twist!
I can't resist a tasty burger on the BBQ, can you? You will not be able to resist this one: healthier ratatouille Turkey burger. Let me tell you about it...
Of course, you know I like to put a French twist to my meals! And, this turkey burger recipe one is no exception! I decided to incorporate French Ratatouille into that recipe: Grated zucchini in the patty, caramelized onions, garlic compound butter, roasted peppers and fresh tomato. All the flavours are here!
MISSING: I actually did not put any eggplant. But after all, it is a twist to ratatouille so it does not have to be exact, right?
ADDED: Some fresh goat cheese to give some creaminess and it just goes so well with all the flavours! This is the great healthier ratatouille turkey burger!
Are The Turkey Burgers Healthy?
This is a burger so given that the bun is carbs, I won't say it is super healthy. However, it is healthier than your average burger. If you have a picky eater around the table, the shredded zucchini is somewhat hidden in the meat. Which mom does not like a hidden vegetable in the meal :)?
What To Season The Turkey Burger With?
Keep it simple with the seasoning, I believe that less is more, some salt and herbs in your patty will be perfect. Also, the grated zucchini mixed with the turkey meat keeps it so moist and the herbs gives that French Ratatouille taste!
Then, this burger comes together thanks to the combination of tasty toppings. Actually, there are 3 toppings that I have very frequently in my fridge in BBQ and salad season: Caramelized onions, garlic compound butter and roasted peppers. I explained it all for you in a post here.
If you are not a burger person, these toppings are irresistible in a salad. I love adding roasted peppers to my salad.
How To Cook A Turkey Burger?
The ideal way is the barbecue. That being said, if you don't have one, you can cook it on a grill cast iron pan as I did for my duck breast.
Nothing equals the smoky taste of meat cooked on the BBQ, that's for sure. Also, you want to make sure that the middle of your patty burger reaches 165F which represents ¾ minutes on each side.
The Story Behind This Healthier Burger
In 2016, I appeared on Marilyn Denis Show! It was for a segment called Fast Food Frenzy where you had to give a twist to a fast food item. I choose to give it 2 twists: French (duh lol) and healthier: the Healthier Ratatouille Turkey Burger was born!
This was a great experience to appear on tv in Toronto with the great Marilyn! If you follow me on Instagram (as you should :)) there is a picture of the burger taken by the production. You can see it here, I had made a kale salad on the side to keep the healthy version going on.
Secret ingredient: I had to add pineapple to my recipe. I chose to chop it and mix it with the caramelized onions. It worked out very well!
The caramelized onions, the garlic compound butter and roasted peppers are explained here. Simple steps to make a batch of these amazing toppings that you can keep in your fridge and add to your salads too!
